Hornblower Group, the operator of NYC Ferry, released today a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the selection of a shipyard to perform the repowering and cooling system conversions of the NYC Ferry K-Class vessels.

The project scope includes:

• Repowering of existing Tier 3 engines to EPA Tier 4 Baudouin 12M26.3 engines equipped with SCR, which will be provided as Owner Furnished Equipment.
• Converting the existing keel-cooled system to raw-water cooling system, including required hull penetrations and sea chest modifications.
• Upgrading exhaust trunking upgrade to accommodate the new engines and comply with applicable emissions and backpressure requirements.

The deadline for submissions is September 28, 2026.

The RFP seeks a shipyard capable of performing the full scope of services on time and within its proposed budget. The selected shipyard will also demonstrate, via this RFP, its ability to comply with Hornblower’s administrative requirements.

This procurement will include the following major milestones:

• RFP Release: August 31, 2026
• Notice of Intent & NDA Deadline: September 4, 2026
• Pre-Proposal Conference and Vessel Tour: September 9, 2026
• Final Date for Written Questions: September 11, 2026
• Proposal Submission Deadline: September 28, 2026
• Commencement of Shipyard Work: December 2, 2026
