Why is this pilot program happening?
Large cruise ships at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal have caused a lot of traffic congestion in Red Hook over the past few years. This pilot is part of an initiative to reduce cruise-related congestion on Red Hook streets and improve vehicle flow. The information gathered during this pilot will help guide future decisions to reduce the number of private vehicles on Red Hook streets when peak cruise season restarts in 2025.
Do I have to be a cruise passenger to ride the shuttle?
No, boarding is first-come, first-served, and anyone at the landing may board the shuttle if they wish.
Do I need a ticket to board the shuttle?
No, the pilot shuttle is fare-free, and no ticket is needed to board while the pilot is in operation. If you plan to board the regular South Brooklyn route, a valid NYC Ferry ticket is required. NYC Ferry staff will be at Red Hook/Atlantic Basin and Wall Street/Pier 11 to help organize lines and let you know when to board. Please note that vessels have limited capacity, and the shuttle will be boarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can I make a free transfer after getting off the pilot shuttle?
No. If you wish to take a regularly scheduled NYC Ferry route, you must have a separate ticket purchased on the NYC Ferry app or at ticket vending machines on the landing.
