In recognition of the United Nations General Assembly and International Peace Day, visitors are invited to design and fly kites selecting stripes, colors, and symbols that represent personal ideas about peace and freedom. Take NYC Ferry’s Astoria route to Roosevelt Island, walk to the Roosevelt Island Library and to the Four Freedoms Park!
Visitors of all ages will discover the fun of constructing and flying their very own kite, guaranteed to soar in the lightest of winds. Kite-making workshops are free and suitable for all ages. Food will be available for purchase from Fat Boy’s Kitchen.
This event coincides with Roosevelt Island’s Fall for Arts Festival, an annual celebration of art and autumn, featuring live mural painting and other fun, family-friendly activities throughout the island.
STORYTIME SESSIONS WITH THE ROOSEVELT ISLAND BRANCH LIBRARY
The Roosevelt Island Branch Library will host storytime sessions at 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm. Join one of our favorite librarians, Jennifer Minehardt, as she reads books about peace and human rights, plays games, and offer fun give-aways.
LETTERS OF GRATITUDE
Share your messages of gratitude with Deployed Troops, Veterans, New Recruits & First Responders at our special letter writing station in partnership with Operation Gratitude.
All activities are free; registration for kite-making workshops is recommended. Registration helps us determine how many supplies to order. Kites will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
